Being the Tenth Year it’s going to be BIGGER and BETTER! This year we are opening our venues to include more Vermont artists! The price for both days remains at $50 per artist or product selling farm. No cost to those farms willing to host a tour or just plain open your barn doors for the two days!

Join us for the Tenth annual Discover the Heart of the Islands: Open Farm and Studio Tour, July 9th & 10th, 2016. This year we are using communal or hub across four island towns. We are opening our artist registration up to off island artists! Agricultural venues in Grand Isle County are also to be featured. Visit vineyards, farms, gardens, art studios, galleries, and farmers’ markets. Meet the artists, agricultural producers and their animals living and working within sight of, and sometimes at the edge of, magnificent Lake Champlain.

Artists will be clustered in 14 different locations. All venues will have an appropriate number of artist spaces for exhibiting and demonstrating your work. Each will draw a crowd! Artists who are not listed will need to provide a first, second and third choice of locations. We will do our best to honor your choices.
They are:
SOUTH HERO: Snow Farm Vineyard, Health Hero Farm, Hacketts Orchard, Allenholm Orchard, Blue Thumb Farm, Champ Horse Farm, Anne Zolotas – studio and farm, Yellow Dog Farm, East Shore Vineyard, Sherry Corbin, Across the Grain – studio;
GRAND ISLE: Grand Isle Art Works, Faywood Gardens, Jessica Remmey – studio;
NORTH HERO: Linda James – studio, Roxanne Bieber – studio;
ISLE LAMOTTE: Hall Homeplace Cidery, Harmon Noble Barn. More information will be sent as applications are received.

There is an Early Bird registration fee of $50.00 per farm or individual artist by February 15, 2016, after this date it is $75.00. All registrations must be received by April 15, 2016. Studio demonstrations are highly recommended. This is a chance to teach our community about craft in Vermont!

The registration fee is waived for farms with no items for sale.

Discover the Heart of the Islands – 2015

02_yellow_dog9th Annual Champlain Islands Open Farm and Studio Tour

Come to Grand Isle County, Vermont, located at the northern end of Lake Champlain, and discover the heart of the islands.  Join us for the seventh annual Discover the Heart of the Islands: Open Farm and Studio Tour, July 11th & 12th, 2015.  This year there is a special emphasis on the agricultural venues in Grand Isle County.  Visit vineyards, farms, gardens, art studios, galleries, and farmers’ markets.  Meet the artists, agricultural producers and their animals living and working at the edge of magnificent Lake Champlain.

This tour has become one of the premier summer events in the islands.  There are over fifty artists, artisans, and small farms opening their studio doors and swinging back the barnyard gates to showcase the variety, creativity and hospitality of Vermont’s very own archipelago—Grand Isle County.  Join Vermont Farm Tours on Saturday the 11th and participate in one of the mapped bicycle routes that take you to many of the venues on the tour.

This is a great way to get off the main road and truly “Discover” the heart of the islands.  Watch demonstrations by potters, jewelers, painters, wood turners and fiber artists.  Sample savory delights from island producers and chefs at the Farmer’s Market on Saturday and at the Taste of the Islands food celebration held at the Grand Isle Art Works gallery on Sunday.  Visit island farms and chat with the folks who provide the fresh meats, cheeses, and produce for our local markets.  See angora goats, alpacas, llamas, and sheep and get a chance to see how yarn is hand spun from these fiber animals.

The Discover the Heart of the Islands: Open Farm and Studio Tour is a great opportunity to buy items directly from the hands of the artists in their studios. You can also visit fine art and craft galleries where work from island artists is featured.  For those who are more adventurous plan to get your shoes dirty and learn how real farming happens.
